Mission Statement

Established in September, 2010 as a vehicle for the display of a collection of phonography, Klangkammer seeks to promote awareness of the sonic object while celebrating the mystery and wonder of sound.

Juxtaposition and context are the primary means through which meaning is ascribed to the collection, which will continue to expand as new recordings are gathered and past recordings are digitized and added to the online archive.

By favoring provenance rather than description, the minimal text accompanying these objects allows a diverse, worldwide audience to focus on the actual sonic content rather than the originator of the sonic event.
